Congratulations to Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza on her appointment as Deputy Chief Justice
WLSA Zimbabwe congratulates Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza on her appointment as the Deputy Chief Justice. The first woman to occupy such a post in the history of the country.
Admitted as a legal practitioner in 1987, Justice Gwaunza then co-founded WLSA Zimbabwe in 1989 and became the National Coordinator till 1995. We are pleased to be associated with her. It is an honour and inspiration to continue with the work of ensuring that the law works equitably for women.
A founder and former President of the Zimbabwe Association of Women Judges, Justice Gwaunza is the second woman to have sat on the Supreme Court bench. She is a member of the International Association of Women Judges and have sat on many women’s organization boards.
Further, Justice Gwaunza has authored many books and publications, which include a Regional Impact Study Report, Pregnancy and Child Birth –Joy or Despair, which looked at gender-generated reproductive crimes of violence among a myriad of her written works.
We at WLSA Zimbabwe are inspired by her sterling work, in particular on women and the law
