WLSA is concerned with the resurgent gender-based violence in political activities and its impact on women’s political participation.
Section 17, 56 and 80 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe spell out gender equality between the sexes and women’s right to full participation in all spheres of society and women’s right to equal opportunity in political, economic and social activities.
We call on the Zimbabwe Gender Commission, Zimbabwe Republic Police, National Peace and Reconciliation Commission, and other relevant stakeholders to urgently investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators of gender-based violence to account.
